Featuring the vibrant, sultry jazz of Karen Johns & Company...

"...The lady has authoritative range with her vocals... Ms. Johns' execution of arrangements can be compared to notes vying for her affection, with the result actually being, the affection becoming ours... One thing I can assure you of, the star for any season is present on every spin!"

"...as the Duke used to say, 'It don't mean a thing, if it ain't got that swing.' Ms. Johns and her band have that... in spades!... But Ms. Johns blows me away. Not just with her range and styling, both of which are enough to make her stand out in a crowd. But the music itself is the very best of stuff..."

"What really attracts me to this CD is the original music. You'll want to listen to Angels in the Snow and China Town for examples of good contemporary Jazz singing and writing. I really enjoyed Carry Me Away. If these songs aren't covered by lesser jazz-erinas over the years, there ain't no justice."

Welcome to the Jazz of Karen Johns & Company featuring their latest jazz CD album release, Star and Season [PtarmiganMusic/Jazz; Vital Force Publishing, (ASCAP)]; and their former jazz CD album, LUCKY DAY (PtarmiganMusic/Jazz; Vital Force Publishing, ASCAP). Both albums are filled with the exhilarating sound of big band horn sections and the sonorous sound of the club quartet as Karen Johns & Company swing, croon, bossa and bop!

"Listeners are taking two distinct but intertwined journeys in Star and Season. Karen Johns & Company moves us fluidly through both the seasons of the year and the seasons of love. It is a deliberate effort that pays off richly... Karen Johns and her fine company of talented musicians who contributed to Star and Season have created music that has staying power. It's not merely a collection of songs. The entire work has purpose and meaning, and it invites us on a journey that's worth taking at any season."
- Butler Cain, Ph. D., News Director- Alabama Public Radio (NPR), Tuscaloosa.

"In this album Lucky Day, singer/songwriter Karen Johns, her producer, and team of musicians have created a beautiful, mellow jazz recording with vocals from Karen that remind me of a young Ella Fitzgerald.. add to that the fine horn arrangements and horn performances of Jim Hoke (not to mention a harmonica performance that if I hadn't known, I would have thought was Toots Thielemans), and one tight rhythm section... then you have one of the best and rare jazz recordings to come out of Nashville. With that said, I am now getting a glass of wine to kick back and enjoy this CD."
- Ernie Durawa, Texas Tornados, Austin.

Woman from the Northwest, and a member of the Tennessee Valley Jazz Society, Karen Johns is based out of Nashville, and though Nashville is internationally acclaimed the legendary Capital of country music, the jazz scene is alive and well in that city. The Nashville Jazz Workshop, a community of life enriching resource, education and support, hosts a staff of professional, outstanding jazz artists and instructors with whom Karen and members of her jazz band have had the privilege to work.

Karen Johns embodies a sophisticated and sultry style. A classically trained artist, Karen hits the mark with any vocal style or genre she approaches; she has an unusual talent and a remarkably diverse ability. While the music resonates rhythm and syncopation, with precision and grace, singer/songwriter Karen Johns weaves a rich tapestry of vocal performance, both live and recorded.
